Entering this NFL season and dating back to 2006 when Thursday night football began, NFL home teams have compiled 71 winners versus 61 losses ATS. This ledger includes the Thanksgiving day games where Detroit and Dallas are the usual home team suspects. The results make sense because sound reasoning would indicate that the very short week of preparation would strongly favor the home team.
Further investigation shows home dogs are only 24 wins and 29 losses ATS. This means home favorites are a robust 47 wins versus only 32 losses ATS for 59.5% winners.
But, the real gem is NFL home favorites coming off a SU loss have covered 19 out of 28 ATS (67.9%) on Thursdays. We will track this trend throughout this season. In fact, the Browns qualified and cashed in week 3 making the trend 20 out of 29 winners ATS (now 69%).
