NBA Momentum Factor

A momentum factor is also calculated to define if an NBA team is improving in performance over its most recent games as compared to its middle and long term performance. For example, an NBA team with a poor power rating can have a positive momentum factor. This means the NBA team’s short term performance is outplaying its long and/or middle term performance level that translates into an improving momentum factor. Momentum assesses whether a team is maintaining or deviating from its more longer term level of play. An NBA team’s momentum is either improving, declining or consistent as compared to its long and middle term productivity.
